Christopher M. Michaud is an author, political thinker, and journalist known as The Canadianist. His writing traces a single argument across multiple books: that Canada hasn’t failed — it’s drifted, and understanding that drift is the first step toward fixing it.

He is the author of After the Boom, a diagnosis of the structural pressures reshaping the country, and Canadianism: A Calm Alternative for a Fractured Country, the first in a series exploring what holds a diverse nation together. Democracy Renewed followed, examining how Canada’s democratic institutions can modernize without losing what makes them work. The New Canadian Covenant: Reframing the Canadian Dream is forthcoming.

Michaud’s career began in journalism, writing for The Suburban in Montreal and working in radio at CKDG and CKGM. That background shaped his approach to public ideas: clear, evidence-based, and allergic to spin. He also writes under the banner The Canadianist, where he explores identity, democracy, and national renewal for a general audience.

He lives in Toronto and continues to write, think, and publish on the questions he believes matter most for Canada’s next chapter.
